Wondering if there is any ACCURATE weather info for the Canaan Valley/Davis and Snowshoe areas. Unfortunately, many times I have gone to Accuweather or Weather.com and the data comes from Elkins or Petersburg. Petersburg is way off, because they only average about 16 in. of snow a year (they have a fairly southern climate) and 25 stature miles west in Canaan Valley they average 150+ inches. Big difference!!! Many times I've seen forecasts calling for springlike weather on the above sites, while it may be in the 40s in Petersburg, it's a blizzard in Davis! This altitude-adjusted stuff is for the birds. Any resources for accurate weather info for Davis/Canaan Valley and Snowshoe?

Check out this website. I don't know how accurate it is but it directly focuses on altitude. The only problem is that you only get a 3 day forcast for free.

3 day forecast for free .. but if you look at the 6 day map on the main page and compare it to the 3 day you can get the extended outlook too. Try here ... http://www.snow-forecast.com/maps/appal_3days.shtml

Personally, I don't trust the extended outlook on Accuweather overly much. Six days out is about as accurate you can get, unless it's a monster storm, especially in a DCSki winter. I love watching the weather persons falling all over themselves when predicting a major storm that fizzles or vice versa, which seem to be the norm in the mid-Atlantic. IMHO .. about the most reliable source for prognosis outside of one week seems to be WxRisk. He calls the storms with a pretty good average, much better than the major weather services like Weather.com and Accuweather. So does Roemer but his subscription fees are way up there.

I wonder if the subscription weather from Accuweather is more accurate than freebee stuff on their website?

Wow,
The white grass site is sorely in need to of a web consultant. Or at least some improved sense of organization. It took me 15 minutes to find the weather information link.

I think that's by design. It kind of matches their attitude.

tromano - Actually I have been speaking with Chip about this already in seeing how my webhosting/webconsulting/PC/Network consulting business can help him out. We've got some ideas churning.
