At Jack Frost, B and C lift, E and F lift, and now also East 1 and 2 double lifts are being replaced by fixed grip quads.

At Big Boulder, the Edielweiss triple and now also Merry Widow 1 and 2 lifts are being replaced by new fixed grip quads.

Five new lifts across JFBB is a pretty significant investment and cuts the required staff for full operations by four whole lift crews.

2 doubles have greater uphill capacity than 1 quad (faster line speed, closer chair spacing, less misloads, redundancy, easier to load chairs to capacity) but having newer equipment is also nice

it is about staff reduction first. No staff no lifts run. They needed the new lifts.

Half the maintenance, half the lifties, new equipment - it all adds up. There's a reason just about nobody is building new doubles these days.

I'm not super familiar with either resort - are they likely to gain any skiable area by freeing up space or no?
