by The Associated Press
CHAMPION, Pa. (AP) - Seven Springs Mountain Resort will kick off its ski season on Friday.
The resort had nearly a foot of natural snow on Wednesday, and officials planned to make more now that temperatures have settled into the 20s and 30s on a regular basis.
The resort will open its expert Avalanche slope and four others, Tyrol, Stowe, Wagner and North Face, and its Fawn Lane, Phillip's Run and Cortina trails. Four of the resort's five ski lifts will be operating.
"Based on the long range weather forecast through next week and our snowmaking capabilities, we anticipate having all 31 slopes and trails open by Dec. 24," said resort president Scott Bender.
Lifts will run from 9 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and until 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The resort is about 45 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.
