USA Today published an article with more details on Friday's potential storm:

http://www.usatoday.com/weather/news/2003-12-03-wintry-weather_x.htm

Still not certain what form precipitation will take, but it's looking like Friday could be messy. The article mentions that West Virginia could get a lot of snow, with areas north of D.C. getting at least four inches. But precipitation could bounce between rain, sleet, freezing rain, snow, etc. -- the usual uncertainty for this area.
