This is a great resort about 1.5 hours from Boston that keeps getting better. I almost went last year but will certainly put it on my list for this year.

I went to Sunapee this winter for the first time. I have a friend that lives a few miles away and took a day on the slopes when I visited him.

I was very impressed with this small mountain. There was some varied terrain that kept the day interesting and I saw some great challenging tree runs (but they were closed since it was in late march and lack of snow concerns). A new expansion would make this mountain much more desirable for out of towners.

However, one of the things I liked the most about this mountain were the people. It was mid-week when I went and the other skiers were some of the most friendly I've met on the chairs. They shared info on where to ski, what to avoid, and how many laps you should have completed before noon (which I think was close to 35 if you were burning it up).

I'll definitely make another trip to Sunapee.

SUNAPEE, NH, is one of the places where I skied as a child. The land it sits on is mainly state park land, and when I was younger, the state ran the resort as a natural snow only ski center. It was the best day trip destination from the Boston suburbs when snow conditions were good. Since the Okemo owners took over the place and began modernizing it, I have wanted to go back but inevitably the pull of larger venues compels me to skip it. I don't think I will skip it next time I'm in Boston. I also want to hit another small mountain I grew up on: Watchusett.

Sounds like quite a nice day trip area for Bostonians: 1400 foot vertical, 97% snowmaking, variety of trails. Some of the smaller New England areas have a lot to offer; too bad we can't move Sunapee to West Virginia.
