NWS forecast for SW VA: A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM AND COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP ACROSS THE AREA
FRIDAY MORNING INCREASING THE CHANCE FOR RAIN OVERNIGHT INTO FRIDAY.
THERE WILL STILL BE A SLIGHT CHANCE OF LINGERING SHOWERS IN THE
MOUNTAINS ON SATURDAY MORNING. WITH SIGNIFICANTLY COLDER AIR BEHIND
THE FRONT ENTERING THE REGION FRIDAY...SOME OF THE PRECIPITATION MAY
FALL AS LIGHT SNOW AT ELEVATIONS HIGHER THAN 3500 FEET ACROSS PARTS
OF SOUTHEAST WEST VIRGINIA...FAR SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA AND FAR
NORTHWEST NORTH CAROLINA.
And, more importantly for the board, forecast for the high country of WV (CV): SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS WILL LINGER THROUGH SATURDAY AS THE UPPER LOW
PULLS AWAY. AS PRECIPITATION TAPERS OFF SATURDAY NIGHT...IT MAY END
AS A FEW SNOWFLAKES IN THE MOUNTAINS...SAY ABOVE 3000 FEET OR SO.
Frankly, if they're calling for snow levels near 3500 feet down here and in NC, it's possible that 3000 feet is a bit conservative up in the CV area.

First tracks anyone?

Was at Timberline late Saturday afternoon (around 1700). Snow came in thick and visibility was reduced to less than 1/4 mile at one point. It stuck to the grass and the roads for awhile but by the next morning most of it was gone.
High winds kept blowing all night and well into Sunday so they were bare of snow (and most leaves where our house is at around 3600'). When I left to come home, the slopes at Timberline, White Grass, and CV were still dusted.
