The Lake Tahoe region in northern California receives significantly more snowfall than the mid-Atlantic over the course of a season, but Tahoe winters can be a feast or famine affair with little rhyme or reason. Massive dumps can hit in October or May, with dry spells in January. The region is currently enjoying a pre-Halloween frozen treat. Ripped from last Thursday's (10/21/04) headlines: "Boreal Ski Resort near Donner Pass said its 3-foot snowfall would let it open Thursday - the second earliest season opening in two decades."

Boreal is actually one of the smaller Tahoe ski areas with nine lifts and 600 feet of vertical, but it is strategically located about 60 minutes closer to the Bay area than many others.

Anybody have a personal experience with Rogue Tahoe Dumps?

Last time I went to Tahoe I kept waiting for the dumps, and waiting some more. Instead I got 60 degree slush. It was the first week of March and I was very disappointed. However, I plan to feast on some early season Sierra Cement in December. I have had my famine, now its my turn to feast!

*At this point its looking like I may be going solo as my girlfriend is in grad school, anyone interested in a quick, cheap trip?
