A question for the members who have the Indy Pass...

We were planning to take the kids (10 and 12) skiing in Colorado or Canada for their Spring Break at the end of March.  We are now considering changing our plan to drive and ski at Killington instead.  Economically, are we saving much by getting the Indy Pass for the family and hitting a few close-in resorts in VT or NH.  We don't mind the added driving between resorts as the kids love road trip; but I don't know how the quality of the skiing experience at these smaller ski resorts compares to Killington.

If you have skied at some of the VT or NH resorts on the Indy Pass, please provide some insights.

I've taken my kids (7/10) to Magic and Cannon on the Indy.  Was the first time I've been to Cannon.  Legit mountain, legit skiing, beautiful scenery.  Plus you'll find Lincoln is similar to the Killington access road (not that restaurants and shops are much of draw this year).  Magic is also a legit skiing experience.  Way more varied terrain than Stratton or Okemo (although you might consider biting the bullet for a day and hitting Stratton, their pipes and skier cross runs are really something, kids love 'em).  However, be aware Magic's summit chair is an old double.  Everyone is crossing fingers, they are about to flip the switch on a new Quad.  Not high speed, but will run a touch faster, the whole family can ride up, and it will help with lift lines (only a concern during Saturdays, even then just for a few hours).  Check out their website for the new lift status.

Next up for us is our first trip to Jay over prez weekend, happy to share impressions, drop me a PM if you'd like.

ps assuming you've been to Killington?  If you haven't, you should go, but do your homework!

Cannon and Black NH could make a good combo, believe both should operate into April.  They are about one hour apart.  Cannon is big, Black smaller but with character.  March skiing in NH/VT can sometimes be great, sometimes iffy, esp late March.  Have you looked at VT travel restrictions to see if they effect your plans?  Jay would be the highest interest VT ski area on Indy pass and is comparable to Cannon in size.  If you can make March trip work and also use Indy pass at a few mid-Atlantic areas - that sounds like a win.

Thanks for the insights.

I will do more reading ups on the resorts mentioned, and Vermont's COVID travel restrictions as well.

If you are interested in seeing multiple areas on a New England road trip you owe it to yourself to do a day at Mad River Glen.

Agreed w/ Denis on MRG for the following reasons: 1) Skiers only, 2) no boarders, 3) single chair lift.   But it is not on Indy pass or any pass that I am aware.

I did not purchase Indy pass this season but I have visited at their website quite often as I thought about doing a ski safari this season. But then, travel restrictions changed my plan.

You can use Google Interactive Map from the indy pass website and map out your route. e.g. hit few places on the way up (to VT, NH), visit rest on the way back, if time allows.

Refer to Indy pass website screen shots below for visual.

If you are on Facebook, there is a FB Group for Indy Passholders.  Plenty of posts about Cannon, Magic, and MRG.  People are also having good fun at Berkshire East and Catamount.
