First week of Feb, 2023. What's the closest place to DC that doesn't suck?

Looking at regional options and the hills are looking sad. Lots of trails not open. Cams are showing mud. What's the closest place to here right now that's not just sad and gross?

Definitely timberline.  I'm sure snowshoe is great also but it's an extra 1.5 hrs from DC.

Elk in Northeastern PA.  Not the closest but it is my favorite in mid-Atlantic region.

Don't sleep on Massanutten, it is less of a drive than TLine or Snowshoe and has a good bit of open terrain.

If you are skiing the weekend you might want to consider Canaan, they are up too 19 trails with a good mix of beginner, intermediate and advance trails, great value, 4 hr flex that starts when you hit the first gate, no high speed lifts but no crowds either. I imagine snowshoe and timberline will be packed. You might also consider Blue Mt, mid week.

Daytime snowmaking at Massanutten for a few days.  I would guess by the weekend of Feb. 4-5 that there will be three ways down from the top.  They are also working to re-open Meadow and get Easy Street (Geronimo) widened out again.  The base on Southern Comfort was very deep and wider than past seasons when I was there over MLK weekend.  Same for Upper Showtime now that there are fan guns instead of the old noisy stick guns.

All the Vail resorts in the Laurel Highlands have great coverage and no mud. Laurel has now Wildcat top to bottom. Laurel also has a great vibe and the legendary Wildcat Lounge, but please don't tell anyone. ;-)

The Laurel Highlands resorts or Snowshoe would be your best bet.  Assuming things hold up with this warm spell we are now having for the next couple of days.
