Whitetail/Liberty have finally announced opening day as December 20th (I saw tickets were for sale for the 20th a while ago, but it wasn't on the website until today, from what I can tell).

Roundtop opening tomorrow, the 14th.  I don't track Roundtop as often though, because I have to drive past Liberty to get there so why bother?

All 3 pumping out snow today. It looked like roundtop was expecting Minuteman, Fife and Drum, plus the green runs for opening day.

It looks like WT and Liberty will probably be in whale preservation mode once guns go off on Sunday until they open up on Friday. Both look like they have a good amount of farm-able snow though. So, I'm hopeful for a stronger start out of the gate from both vs last year.

Whitetail opens on Friday, December 20, and announced they'll have the following 14 trails open (along with all lifts operating):

  • Northern Lights
  • Almost Home
  • Velvet
  • Launching Pad
  • SnowPark
  • Stalker
  • Homerun
  • Upper Angel Drop
  • Lower Angel Drop
  • Fallmount
  • Drop In
  • Ridge Runner
  • Bold Decision
  • Exhibition
  • Hike Park on Sidewinder
That's a pretty impressive opening slate of trails, especially compared to recent years. Can anyone think of the last time Bold Decision (their double black diamond) was open on opening day?

Snow tubing will open on December 21.

Agreed. I'm not sure when I've seen a whitetail opening like that in a long time.  I won't be going this weekend, but I really like that place as a not-too-distant alternative to 7S HV and Laurel.  Will certainly pay a visit early in the season.

It’s cool that they have so much open at this time but puzzling that Sidewinder is not yet open while Snowpark is. Usually it’s the other way around.

Went to whitetail today (Sunday Dec 22) and all advertised slopes above were open and in pretty good shape. Amazing for this early in the season.  Importantly, in addition to the open trails, they are blowing snow on limelight - looks like they have enough to open now or very soon. Also blowing on fanciful but much further behind.  Looks like they weren't doing much if anything on sidewinder surprisingly. On the back side, sadly no apparent activity on my personal favorite far side.

From what I can tell, this is the first season since Vail Resorts bought Peak Resorts that the GMs for Whitetail, Liberty, and Roundtop have all been around since the previous season.  There were appointments at the three resorts in 2022 and 2023.  The current GM for Whitetail moved from Liberty.  The current GM for Roundtop moved from Tahoe.  The current GM for Liberty came from Afton Alps in MN and worked at Breckenridge before that.  All clearly have plenty of ski industry management experience.  But any management transition takes time before any serious planning for the near future can more forward in a meaningful way.

Certainly can't hurt that the current GMs of Whitetail and Roundtop have personal or professional experience with the former Snowtime resorts.
