Resorts Limiting Capacity??

First off, I'm finally back on here after being off for far too long!  My luck all of the original's on here have left and everyone else is new. LOL

Anyway, after being out of snowboarding regularly since the early 2010's, I've done a few instances here and there, notably before Covid hit.

Now that I'm getting back into boarding, I'm seeing resorts have limits on ticket sales???  In that say a given resorts day tickets have to be bought online and once they sell out no more can be sold that day??

What's the premise behind this?  From the late 90's to early 2010's when I was a regular at Bryce, Timberline, and Wisp, none of these resorts had such limits.  Is this purely for crowd control and keep lift lines manageable?  This just really caught me offguard (along with ticket prices wowzer!) when I started looking online.

I could be wrong.  I usually am.  But it seems to have become more prevalent with the consolidation around a handful of mega passes (Epic, Ikon, ect) as well as some of the issues that were more apparent during COVID, when demand for things such as skiing was abnormally high.  And the premise, yes, is to put some limit on crowd when projecting season pass use for any given day plus pre and walk up lift ticket sales.

You are bringing back memories there!  Although that was always a blast to park hidden off of old Rt 55 and get on my bicycle and ride/walk the under construction parts of Corridor H and officially report back to here.

There is actually new Corridor H news (although it's something that is awful to share for me).  Within the past 6 months the state has started reaching out to land owners about possible land acquisition in order to bypass Wardensville to the south and end the 4 lanes at the top of the mountain at the VA/WV line.  I've gotten my hands on the proposed routes with 'exits' for a few secondary roads that feed into Wardensville.

These plans indicate that the new section would veer to the left (when going from VA to WV) at the border and would go significantly south of current Rt 55.  The state looks to sever the old Rt 55 link so that the current and new Rt 55's would not merge together and old Rt 55 would have a cul-de-sac in the national forest.

I share all of that with a bit of regret because it is going to directly take out the homes of many of my IT customers, friends, and will radically impact what we call "Anderson's Ridge" (the small ridge behind 7-Eleven that burned bad back in March).  Many locals simply don't want it which has been a change from 20+ years ago when most everyone was for it.  I think they saw how many local businesses along old Rt 55/259 in Baker, towards Moorefield, etc that were closed down due to little to no traffic, they are realizing it may not be worth it.

Anyway, found it ironic you shared that post and here has been a little CH activity happening.

Essentially great news.  As much as anything can with government, the project has been stopped in it's tracks and is dormant with no interest of being revived by any existing county / regional governmental entities.

Back in the late 2000's we went to the 4th district federal courts where unfortunately we lost and lost on appeals.  But the bright side was that during the mid-2000's it was uncovered that WV was conducting highly illegal and highly unconstitutional balloting for the 'soil conservation board' which were a bureaucracy that didn't have much or any state congressional/executive branch oversights.  So for 50+ years (most likely since their inception), voting for those board members was not conducted on the general ballot.  Rather, they had unmonitored ballot boxes in farm/feed stores, there were rules that said women couldn't vote, only one person from a household could vote, and you had to own land to vote.

Anyway our attorney's at the time discovered that and sued the pants off the state.  Of which those rules were dropped and the soil conservation service was required to adhere to general ballot box/Nov time frame voting.

Lastly, our lawsuit established term limits for those board members and almost all of them were immediately replaced with younger farmers out of college.  For the most part they've abandoned watershed projects in general, but ours seems to be so far off their radar, I would be shocked if it were to come up again in my lifetime.

I'm still in the area, although working out of Harrisonburg at the moment.  Was out west in Nebraska as some will remember years ago (Go Big Red!) to work in IT out there while still doing my business back here.  I'm still working in and out of the immediate Wardensville/Baker/Moorefield/Petersburg areas when I'm not doing my 9-5 as a Network Engineer.

West is generally the best. Retired and skiing Schweitzer. Terrain is amazing, some of the steepest blacks I’ve ever skied, including out West. Viz can suck - PNW for ya. But, WV and VT got a lot more snow than we did in Jan and Feb. Happy for you guys. But, top of mountain has an 8 foot base, so we do have snow… Despite some wet weather across the region this weekend. Living at a normal human elevation has its drawbacks.

‘And will be Salt Lake City mining for three weeks in April.

I may have to ressurect the 20+ year old CorridorH posts again!  I was in downtown Wardensville earlier today doing IT work for a client who indicated that via word of mouth, side affects of CorridorH may result in their business being demolished there in town.  Needless to say, they aren't happy about that and it seems town sentiment is to leave Corridor H where it's at and improve Rt 55 to the top of the mountain and for VA to maybe add an extra mountain lane or widen places.
