I am looking for something below $70 per night not more than half an hour away, something like Somerset is for 7 Springs. Any other place to buy discounted lift tickets apart from Ski Chalet?
Thanks

Marlinton is about 25 miles south of SS on 219. There is a Marlinton Motor Inn and a Rustic Inn down that way. There is also some sort of no-tell motel about 5 miles north on 219 - don't know the name. The Hermitage is a about 30 or so out Rt. 55 or something - probably convenient to those coming in form the east. There are a number motels in Elkins - about an hour away.

Half an hour away... There are quite a few...

1. The Appalachian Sports Lodge in Marlinton, half an hour away, offers four, two room efficiency units for 75 a day. Their website is http://www.appsport.com/lodging.html

2. The Brazen Head Inn (one of my favorites) offers weekday rooms for 69 a day, and it is only 6 miles from Snowshoe in Mingo. If you like beer, this is the place to go. Actually, if you like a homey, friendly place where you won't be treated like they treat you at the Junction at Snowshoe (phew!!), The Brazen Head is a must. Excellent food, great beers, and it is owned by a real Irishman. It has also become sort of the impromptu celtic jam session in the area and it is worth a visit from both the food and the cultural aspect. Frankly, with the deplorable customer service at Snowshoe restaurants nowadays (except Foxfire and Red Fox which are privately owned), I would drive the six miles to the Brazen head before pitching a penny at the Junction, the pizza place or anywhere else owned by Intrawest. The web site for the Brazen Head is http://www.brazenheadinn.com and you can even get their cultural calendar.

3. Buffalo Run Lodge. Never been there but their site sez they have rooms with or without private bath and they range from 60-100 a night and includes a "hearty breakfast" which in Appalachian parlance usually means food enough to satiate a lumberjack. They are just north of Greenbank about 15 miles from the Shoe. Their site is http://www.bbgetaways.com/buffalorunlodge/

4. Elk River Touring Center: Been there, six miles south of Snowshoe on Hwy 219. it is an awesome Nordic Ski and Mt Biking center with a lodge and restaurant. I highly recommend it same as Brazen Head, and together with the great service from the staff, the clientele is like having dinner at your local REI or Patagonia store. They show rates as low as 50 bucks at the farmhouse. Their website is http://www.ertc.com/

5. Sweet Thyme Inn. In Greenbank, 11 miles away from Snowshoe. They advertise 60-80 a night double occupancy. Driven by it many times, but their veggan faire is only available in you stay with them. Their site is at http://www.sweetthymeinn.com/index.html

There are many others but these are the ones that had rates of 75 or less....

Oh... I just thought of it and it worked. If you go to http://www.pocahontascountywv.com/home.aspx you will find a Pocahontas County interactive site, apparently geared to the outdoor crowd, with some amazing links to inexpensive lodging, cabins, etc. The creator is obviously an expert.

If you are going midweek, you can stay at the bottom at snowshoe for 2 nights and get two days lift tix for 99 bucks per person. You can stay on the top at Spruce Lodge, slopeside, if you bump that up to 109 per person.

Try the Boyer Motel (304-456-4667). Its a few miles north of Greenbank on Routes 28 and 92, a little more than 1/2 hour from Snowshoe. The rate is about $50 per night. Plain but clean. My family has stayed there about half-a-dozen times.
