Some school districts in the greater Washington area will be closed on Inaugeration. Day, Jan 20.  Why not take advantage of this unique situation and plan a ski trip to Snowshoe !  Enjoy relatively uncowded slopes on Friday.  What an opportunity.

Better check the Fairfax county school schedule before you commit.  I was leader or co-leader of a Boy Scout ski trip for 20 years and it was always over a 4 day weekend in late January aided by teachers work days.  On that 4 day weekend every resort in the mid-A will be swamped with kids.

Ditto for Anne Arundel- kids no school 23-24Jan, families take it in lieu of MLK.  But slopes will still be less crowded than MLK.

Fed gov in DC metro has off the 20th as well.

It's about a three hour drive from Balt/Wash, but Blue Knob, PA can be a good crowd beater most winter holidays.

Trip reports from past Inauguration Days, good times at both Blue Knob and Wisp:

Fun Fact.. Most resorts around here do NOT charge holiday/weekend rates for MLK or President's Monday.
