Thanks to the combination of significantly increased snowmaking abilities and several days of chilly temperatures, Canaan Valley Resort skiers can defy Gravity ”“ our most advanced run ”“ along with Lower Canaan Curve and Upper Spruce this weekend.
This brings our early-season skiable terrain to 13 slopes and trails, including the 1¼-mile Timber Trail. We are looking at a 12-inch to 24-inch base and packed powder.
We believe this is the earliest in the season that Gravity has been open and easily the earliest in the resort’s 45-year history that so many trails and slopes have been opened with man-made snow.
Will you have any terrain park features for this coming weekend?
What's wrong with the web cam and when do you expect to have it fixed so you can show off the open trails. Unfortunate timing, camera dies when your new snowmaking power allows an early opening!
I ski canaan 2 out of 3 days when im up at the valley...the other day being TL....So im a fan and when I negatively posted awhile back about Canaans post about more snowmaking this year it was because being a regular I hear about increased snowmaking on a regular basis..add that to actually seeing the new equipment just sitting there not running when it should, I and others have become very sceptical over the years....
Sooooo...trust but verify...but so far it looks like Canaan is finally going for it!.......been a long time coming ...lets hope that this is a long term trend with more improvements..maybe some slope redisigns like how bout this....
Next summer haul a ton of dirt up to the top of the meadows...put a lift station on top of it...bring the lift line all the way down to Route 32...that way we can ski that side of the mountain exclusively and enjoy the added verticle sking down to 32...
Then we get trump to hire Joe manchin as secretary of Sking so we can get a lift up to the top of bald knob servicing new slopes all the way down to almost 32....
when they built the new lodge they should have moved it down the mountain...moved everything down the mountain freeing up a huge base area that would have givin us that last drop to fly down to..fun fun...so im suggesting that Joe manchin will have to suck it up and get this awesome mountain done right...move the lodge..add the new lifts expand the terrain...
A solid Picture postcard perfect Mountain with a very impressive variety of terrain that will increase the verticle from what it really is now of only about 750' to a rock solid 1200' vert mountain!!!$$!........
Now if that cant be done so WV can seriously claim to being a true ski state......THEN GET MOUNT PORTE CRAYON UP AND SKIING....a true Skiers Mountain..the real Deal....come on WV....move up in the Ranks!!!!
PS..add a new polished TL to the mix and WE CAN MAKE WV GREAT AGAIN!!!!.....Wheww...Coffee is strong this morn....
The CVR cam only shows the front Face/bottom of 1st meadow, the feeder trails from the beginner area, and the bottom of Timber. This is from Canaan Heights. Tomorrow will be fresh pow ~6", Sat will be spring conditons, Sun will be boilerplate. Enjoy and pick your conditions.
Good news, Colonel.
The new camera arrived late yesterday afternoon, and our techs are working on it this morning. If fishnski will share some of his coffee with them it should be operational in about two minutes.
Thanks for your patience.

LOOKING GOOD!
Saddest thing is seeing only a few skiers taking advantage of your outstanding conditions.
Come on DCSkiers, let's appreciate the Canaan improvements and fantastic early season conditions with our boards and skis tomorrow and this coming weekend!! Fairfax and Prince William county parents take your kids for a day or two of slope time before Christmas. Yes, I know you are really busy, but Canaan Valley Ski Area deserves a paying "atta boy" for their amazing effort this season! Before Christmas spend some time in the wonderful highest valley east of the Missippi! And we older skiers need to show our appreciation for remarkable lodging and lift rates at CVSP after the Christmas Holiday period! CV supports us, we need to reciprocate!
Merry Christmas to all my fellow DCSkiers. Hope to see you on the slopes sometime!
MorganB aka The Colonel
I'll certainly be at CVR this season. Also appreciate their participation in these forums.
Longtime season pass holder at Timberline but definitely plan to ski CV a few days this season.

I'ved got a CVR Season Pass this year (in additon to year 2 of my "Awesome Pass.") Skied a few runs last weekend; I'll be skiing CVR a lot this year, especially on Saturday afternoons.

Did Gravity ever open? It was closed Sat/Sun (with snow piled up in whales.) Still marked as closed on your web site.
Yes, you’re right. Despite our best intentions and yeoman efforts by our mountain staff, the weather just didn’t cooperate and we couldn’t open the run. We were all disappointed, especially Mike Chaney and his dedicated team. But we’re working hard on it today, and we’ll be opening Gravity tomorrow. Thanks for your patience, DC Skiers. Despite the weekend’s weather hiccup, we’re still looking forward to a terrific ski season.
