Snowing in Canaan
October 18, 2004
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee friggin Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww
Cool! Is that webcam link good 24/7? How often is it updated?
Denis - that webcam is provided by the forrest service and is 'live' in that it's updated every 15 minutes. It's a very reliable source for weather conditions of the valley.
There was some heavy thunder-snow here in Davis earlier that whitened the ground. Most of it has since melted, but I just drove up to Canaan Heights, and there was a good half inch of snow on the ground, and still snowing. I hope this is just the beginning of a great snow season!
It's snowing even harder now. 4:15 and you can't see anything but white streaks across the picture. 32 degrees F.
Ended up with almost an inch of snow here in Davis. I'm guessing maybe up to two inches in the higher elevations. Still some snow on the ground now.
Is this amount of snowfall normal for this time of year in Davis-Canaan Valley, etc? I'm wondering with someone mentioning back in August that the leaves changed up there a week or so early that if a snowfall like this isn't a week or so early. *Crossing my fingers for a week or so early ski season and more than usual snow*
The Dolly Sods webcam clearly shows snow on the Timberline and Canaan slopes today at 3;00 PM. SWEET.
Looks like west va starts the season off on the east coast! I was in Boone,NC over the weekend & they recieved snow at 5000' & up.The main moisture feeds from these type of weather systems retreat back north & hang around the west va alps for much longer.
Chip Chase posted some photos on the White Grass site:
